Indian Navy's VL-SRSAM missile system

Indian Navy's VL-SRSAM missile system

Last week DRDO successfully launched the VL-SRSAM missile system developed for the Indian Navy. VL-SRSAM stands for  Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile. The launch was carried out successfully from the ITR(Integrated Testing Range).

This missile system is indigenously designed and developed by DRDO for the Indian Navy, the VL-SRSAM will be used for neutralizing various aerial targets at close ranges and sea-skimming targets. The launch was monitored by the senior scientists from DRDO labs, such as DRDL, RCI, Hyderabad and R&D Engineers, Pune.

The VL-SRSAM system will prove to be a force multiplier for the Navy. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO on the successful trials. Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO congratulated the teams involved in the successful flight test of VL-SRSAM Missile System.

Two rounds of the indigenously developed missile were tested from a static vertical launcher positioned at the Integrated Test Range (ITR). The missiles were fired against simulated targets. The two weapon systems intercepted the simulated targets with pinpoint accuracy on both occasions. The missiles were tested for minimum and maximum range. The flight path and vehicle performance parameters were monitored using flight data, captured by various Range instruments such as radar, electro-optical telemetry systems deployed by ITR.
