  • ·      The paper consisted of ten questions on prepositions and determiners. These questions were of moderate level, a basic knowledge of usage of “in”, “with”, “for”, “a”, “an”, “about” etc. was tested.
  • ·      Then there were 10 questions on “Parts of Speech”. Here in each question, a sentence with an underlined word was given. The candidates had to identify the parts of speech corresponding to that underlined word like noun, pronoun, adjective, etc. Some questions of this set were slightly tougher. The part of speech is a new trend in the CDS exam. These questions are being asked for the last 1-2 years only.
  • ·      Then there were 10 questions on sentence completion where the initial segment of a mixed sentence was given and the candidates were asked to identify the correct later segment of that sentence. The level of these questions was relatively easier. This pattern of questions is also new for the CDS exam. In the past years, such questions were not asked much.
  • ·      Then comes the Error Spotting section. There were 10 questions on error spotting where a sentence was divided into four or five sections. The candidates had to identify the section with an error. Most of the questions were of moderate level. The question was testing the candidate’s knowledge on the usage of ‘since/for’, ‘prefer to/than’, ‘singular and plural form of verbs’, ‘subject-verb agreement’ etc.
  • ·      Then there were ten Idioms and Phrases questions. These questions were slightly on the tougher side as usual.
  • ·      In the Synonyms section, ten easy to moderate level questions were asked. Very easy words like ‘inherent’, ‘perpetual’, ‘competency’ etc. were asked. This time this section was very easy.
  • ·      The same goes for the Antonyms section, ten questions of easy difficulty level were asked. There were very easy words like ‘absurd’, ‘deceased’, ‘contrary’ was asked.
  • ·      Then there were 10 questions on Cloze Comprehension. Here candidates had to choose the correct prepositions and articles to be filled in the blanks. Basic knowledge of usage of ‘a’/’an’/’the’/’on’/’by’ etc was tested. These questions were also easy.
  • ·      There were ten sentence arrangement questions. The initial and the final sentence of a paragraph were given. The candidate had to identify the correct sequence of four jumbled sentences. This section was a time consuming one. Some tough sentences can be seen that was confusing while arrangement.
  • ·      Then there were 10 Fill Up questions. Here a sentence with a blank space was given. Candidates had to identify the correct option to be filled in the blank space. These questions tested the candidate’s knowledge on ‘correct forms of the verb’, ‘use of singular/plural subject’, and ‘pronouns’.
  • ·      Then there were two comprehension passages each followed by 5 questions. The passages were not very lengthy. One of the passages was on noise pollution and ways to control it. It was relatively easier. One question on synonyms was also asked from the passage.
  • ·      There were 10 questions on sentence rearrangement. Each question consisted of a sentence with its parts jumbled. The candidate had to identify the correct sequence of the fragments. Most of the sentences were a little lengthier and can be considered of slightly higher difficulty level.
