January 30 is celebrated as Shaheed Diwas every year in India to pay homage to the victims who fought for the freedom, glory, welfare and progress of India. On 72nd Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the other leaders paid floral tribute to  Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

PM Narendra Modi tweeted "A tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. The personality, ideas and ideals of Pujya Bapu will continue to inspire us to build a strong, capable and prosperous New India"

Along with President of India, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh,, CDS General Bipin Rawat, Army Chief, General MM Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lamba and Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria were also present at the time of paying tribute to Father of Nation "Mahatma Gandhi"

Mahatma Gandhi has great importance in leading India to freedom from British colonial rule. He was assassinated on 30th January 1948. He was assassinated by Nathuram Godse, as he was against Gandhi's idea of partition. Mahatma Gandhi was martyred on this day (30 January) and the Government of India announced the day as Shaheed Diwas or Martyrs' Day.
