Indian Air Force Day: Things you need to know about it

The Indian Air Force Day is celebrated every year on October 8, the day Indian Air Force was officially established in 1932. This year, the Indian Air Force Day was special as the first of 36 long-awaited Rafale fighter jets was received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in France. In spell-binding aerobatic display, the Indian Air Force showcased its latest technology and reflects on the road ahead.

The spectacular air display ceremony took place at the Hindon Air Force base near Delhi. The Indian Air Force also showcased its Chinook and Apache helicopters for the first time. Both these helicopters were acquired from the United States and inducted within in the last few months.

The Air Force Day 2019 was celebrated in the presence of Indian Air Force chief Rakesh Bhadauria and senior officials of the three armed forces.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman of Indian Air Force who shot down a PAF F-16 during a dogfight on February 27 earlier this year, flew MiG-21 Bison aircraft over Air Force Day parade today at Hindon Air Base.Three Mirage 2000 aircraft and two Su-30MKI fighter aircraft also flew in 'Avenger formation'. The planes are being flown by pilots who took part in Balakot airstrike.
