Tiger Triumph: India-US joint tri-services exercise to be held in Andhra Pradesh

India and the United States will hold the first tri-services exercise, ‘Tiger Triumph’ at Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in India's southern Andhra Pradesh state. Scheduled to be held in November this year, it will only be the second time that the Narendra Modi-led nation will deploy assets and manpower from its armed forces for an exercise with a foreign country. Under the helm of Modi, the country had earlier conducted similar tri-service exercises, ‘Indra War Games’ with Russia at Vladivostok back in 2017.

The exercise between the two countries, which will be held along eastern coast in Bay of Bengal. will put emphasis on large-scale amphibious Humanitarian Relief and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Organised under the aegis of headquarters of Integrated Defence Staff, the scheduled exercise highlights strong and growing bilateral defence ties between the two nations.

The announcement which was made by US President Donald Trump during the ‘Howdy, Modi!’ event  in Houston, comes after the Final Planning Conference (FPC) for India-US Tri-Services HADR was concluded at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command on 20 September 2019.

The conference which was attended by delegates from US Navy and Marine Corps and representatives from Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, involved the participants holding discussions on the planning of exercise and interactions on issues related to the conduct of exercise. The Indian and US teams also visited the campsite at Kakinada and conducted table-top exercises as preparatory activities.
