MoD Rajnath Singh to receive Rafale Fighter Jet on October 8

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would be visiting France on October 8 to receive the first Indian Rafale fighter combat  aircraft manufactured by French firm Dassault Aviation that will come to India next year.

According to Govt sources Oct 8 is auspicious day for two reasons, both Air Force day and Dussehra is on Oct 8 2019. The Defence Minister will visit France along with the Defence Secretery Ajay Kumar and other senior officals to receive the Rafale fight jet aircraft from France.

Earlier Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal B.S Dhanoa was to travel to receive the plane on September 19-20. Now, an Air Force team will visit France as per the schedule and sign documents with the French after which the Indian pilots will start training on the advanced Indian Rafale fighter aircraft.

Though the planes would officialy be inducted on October 8 into Indian Air Force, they would start arriving in India only in May 2020after refitment to Indian specification and training of pilots and IAF personnel.

They said top military brass as well as senior officialsof the Dassault Aviation, the makers of Rafale, will also be present at the handing over ceremony. The Indian planes have been equipped with lot of India Specific enhancements costing around one billion euros.


The Indian Air Force will deploy one squadron each of the Rafale combat aircraft in its airbases in Amabala in Haryana and Hashimara in West Bengal.
