Daily Vocabulary: 24th July 2019


Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Defence Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. It becomes very important to learn an ample amount of words for the upcoming Government Job Exams. You can learn new words daily from our Daily Word List. NEUROSIS (NOUN) विक्षिप्त 
Meaning: a mental and emotional disorder that affects only part of the   personality
Synonyms: aberration, dementia, hallucinosis, hypomania, paranoia
Antonyms: lucidity, rationality, rationalness, reasonability

Example: These are givers whose philanthropy has been absent neurosis and aggression

STAID (ADJECTIVE)शांत
Meaning: marked by settled sedateness and often prim self-restraint
Synonyms: dignified, composed, earnest, grave, humorless, no-nonsense
Antonyms: indecorous, frivolous, hilarious

Example:  She was given a staid title-‘The Iron Lady’.

POTENT (ADJECTIVE)प्रबल
Meaning: having an abundance of some characteristic quality (as flavor)
Synonyms: vigorous, influential, competent
Antonyms: ineffective, insignificant

Example:  The potent poison killed him within seconds

SOJOURN (noun) विराम
Meaning: a temporary stay at one place, esp. while traveling.
Synonyms: stay, tarry, visit, stopover.
Antonyms: journey, migration, departure, advance.

Example: During Dean’s sojourn in Paris, he spent two weeks visiting all of the city’s cultural attractions.

INCUR (verb) झेलना
Meaning: become subject to (something unwelcome or unpleasant) as a result of one's own behavior or actions.
Synonyms: provoke, earn, arouse, induce.
Antonyms: avoid, shun, elude, evade.

Example: The surgery wasn’t what scared the sick man, it was all of the medical bills he would incur from the procedure.

BRACE (verb) सहारा देना
Meaning: prepare (someone) for something difficult or unpleasant.
Synonyms: nerve, gird, strengthen, fortify.
Antonyms: dampen, deaden, drain, debilitate.

Example: Along with most of my neighbors in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, I was braced for the presidential transition.

INTRANSIGENCE (Noun) हठ/ कट्टरता 
Meaning: refusal to change one's views or to agree about something.
Synonyms: inflexibility, stubbornness, obstinacy
Example: I can’t understand Rachel’s intransigence, considering that we have undeniable proof that her idea is incorrect.

DEBASE (Verb) अवमूल्यन करना 
Meaning: reduce (something) in quality or value; degrade.
Synonyms: degrade, demean, disgrace, undermine
Antonyms: enhance
Example: The politician tried to debase his rival’s good reputation by spreading false rumors about him.
