Daily Vocabulary for Defence Exams: 27th June 2019


Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Defence Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. It becomes very important to learn an ample amount of words for the upcoming Government Job Exams. You can learn new words daily from our Daily Word List. 1.PRATTLE (verb) बकबक करना
Meaning:  talk at length in a foolish or inconsequential way.
Synonyms: chatter, babble, prate,  ramble.
Antonyms: quiet, silence, enunciate, articulate.

Usage: To make others envious, Reena likes to prattle on about her great job.

2.TROVE (noun) कोष
Meaning: a store of valuable or delightful things.
Synonyms: accumulation, agglomeration, backlog, conglomeration.
Antonyms:  junk, dispersion, reduction, shrinkage.
Usage: I discovered a trove of candy bars and pop tarts in my teen son's pillowcase.

3.PALLIATE (verb)  कम करना
Meaning: make (a disease or its symptoms) less severe without removing the cause.
Synonyms: alleviate, relieve, soothe, assuage.
Antonyms: heighten, intensify, aggravate, exacerbate.
Usage: This medicine should palliate your cough at least a little.

4. REPINE (verb)  विलाप करना
Meaning: feel or express discontent; fret.
Synonyms: mope, languish, despondent, lament.
Antonyms: complacent, fulfilled, rejoice, contented.
Usage: The soldiers repine for their families when they are stationed overseas.

5.PROTEAN (adjective) रूपांतरणीय
Meaning: tending or able to change frequently or easily.
Synonyms: variable, inconsistent, erratic, fluctuating.
Antonyms: consistent. continual, incessant, constant.
Usage: I am unable to make a final decision because of my protean nature which makes me indecisive.

6. STARK (adjective) निरानंद
Meaning: Unpleasantly or sharply clear.
Synonyms: blunt, plain, unembellished, harsh.
Antonyms: lush, bleak, cheerful, opulent.
Usage: His evidence in chief stood in stark contrast to his evidence on cross-examination.

7.PURPORTEDLY (adverb)  कथित रूप से
Meaning: As appears or is stated to be true, though not necessarily so; allegedly.
Synonyms: professedly, supposedly, seemingly, superficially.
Antonyms: absolutely, authentically, certainly, earnestly.
Usage: The woman found a letter purportedly signed by the Prime Minister.

8. UNABATED (Adjective): अक्षीण
Meaning: without any reduction in intensity or strength.
Synonyms: incessant, persistent
Antonyms: intermittent, relenting
Usage: They danced all night with unabated energy.

9. IMPASSE (Noun): गतिरोध
Meaning: a situation in which no progress is possible, especially because of disagreement; a deadlock.
Synonyms: deadlock, dead end, stalemate, checkmate, stand-off; standstill
Antonyms: solution, a boon
Usage: Because of the impasse between workers and management, the factory has been closed for two weeks.

10.OGLE (Verb): घूरना
Meaning: stare at in a lecherous manner.
Synonyms: stare, gawk
Antonyms: ignore, neglect
Usage: Most women dislike being ogled.
