Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Defence Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. ASTUTE : चतुर
Meaning:having or showing a practical cleverness or judgment
Synonyms:canny, smart
Antonyms:unwise, naive
Example:A police detective is known to be an astute judge of character.

2. INTRIGUING : दिलचस्प
Meaning:holding the attention or provoking interest
Synonyms: absorbing, consuming
Antonyms: boring, tedious
Example:The movie looks intriguing so I’m definitely going to see it.

3. PROFANE : अपवित्र
Meaning:vulgar and inappropriate
Synonyms: nonreligious, secular
Antonyms: godly, prudish
Example:Our supervisor’s profane language has led many employees to resign from their positions.

Meaning:always looking for faults; hard to please

Meaning:to make something less painful, severe, or serious
Synonyms: help, soothe

Example:If you want to alleviate the situation, start by apologizing for your mistake.

7. EQUANIMITY : संतुलन
Meaning:to stay calm, especially under stress; to maintain composure
Synonyms: calmness, cool
Antonyms: agitation, discomposure
Example:During the horrible storm, it was hard for us to focus and maintain our equanimity.

8. RETALIATION : प्रतिशोध
Meaning:the action of harming someone in response to something equally hurtful

9. EXONERATE : हक़ बहाल करना
Meaning:to prove that someone is not guilty of a crime or responsible for a problem, bad situation, etc.

Example:Unfortunately, the video footage does not exonerate Hank of the robbery charges.

10.YEARN : खुद के लिए या आनंद लेने के लिए एक दिलकश इच्छा
Meaning:to have an earnest wish to own or enjoy
Synonyms: fancy, relish
Antonyms:abhor, despise
Example:If you yearn to expand your taste buds, you should try food from a different culture.
