Types of Commission In Armed Forces: Permanent Commission


Joining defence services is a dream for many youngsters who wish to serve their country. It’s all about honour, sacrifice and courage. Being part of the country’s defence forces is not really a job, but a way of life. This is why thousands of aspirants with an adventurous streak and reverence for their motherland aspire to join the forces. There are two kinds of entries in the Indian Armed Forces viz. Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC) for Men and Women. Here we have focused on the opportunities available for an aspirant in Permanent Commission. 

Permanent commission  

If you get selected through permanent commission entry you have an opportunity to serve the nation full time which means upto the age of retirement which is 60 years as of now. It is completely your choice whether to serve till retirement or take an early retirement. Below are the entries for permanent commission in army, air force and navy.

For Indian Army

1. For enrollment in The National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla
NDA entry- Exam followed by SSB interview

2. For enrollment in Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya
TES entry- Direct entry based on SSB interview.

3. For enrollment in The Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun
CDS entry- Exam followed by SSB interview
TGC entry- Direct entry based on SSB interview

For Indian Airforce

1. For enrollment in The National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla
NDA entry- Exam followed by SSB interview

2. For enrollment in The Airforce Academy, Dundigul
CDS entry- Exam followed by SSB interview
NCC Special Entry & Meteorology Branch-  Direct entry based on SSB interview
AFCAT entry (ground duty - technical and non technical)- Exam followed by SSB interview

For Indian Navy

1. For enrollment in The National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla
NDA entry- Exam followed by SSB interview

2. For enrollment in The Naval Academy (NA), Ezhimala
10+2 Cadet entry scheme- Direct entry based on SSB interview
CDS entry- Exam followed by SSB interview
NCC Entry- Direct entry based on SSB interview
Direct Entry permanent commission- Direct entry based on SSB interview
Education Branch entry-  Direct entry based on SSB interview.
